Anthotype Experiments

The first installment of Dreams Not Remembered employs the anthotype process in an aim to visually represent videographic memory from the point of recollection to forgetting as each screening will cause the image to fade until there is nothing left but the hue of the emulsion source.

Creating the emulsion

Organic Ink

Source material for the first batch of emulsion: half cup of rosebud blossoms and wild violet petals + half cup of wild blueberries.

Results

Source material for the second batch of emulsion: rose petals & cheap vodka.

Coated Super 8 film: acetate & homemade paper strips.

I have been experimenting with making my own Super 8 film strips by laser engraving Hahnemühle rag paper. The paper takes the emulsion/ink really well, but the exposure time is significantly greater than the acetate film leader. The texture of the paper through the film scanner is outrageous- I can’t wait to see it with a proper image on it.

This video was made for World Anthotype Day that was hosted by Alternativephotography.com. You can find my recipe and dozens of others in Anthotype Emulsions Vol. 2.
